Genre Case Study Assignment #1

I chose to do this assignment on rom-com posters. This specific genre is notorious for having repetitive posters. They all share common iconography and color schemes such as the usage of red, white, and black. This is most apparent in "The Proposal" but also makes an appearance in the titles of "Date Night" and "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days." It can also be noted that "The Proposal" and "Date Night" use very similar fonts. When audiences see one poster, they are immediately reminded of one they've seen before, thus knowing what to expect. Another common theme is the presence of a man and a woman in a comical stance. I've noticed that oftentimes either one or both of them will be smirking to hint that there will be some kind of twist in the movie. When we see the couple presented over and over again in a light-hearted manner, audiences of the poster always have the take away of "this movie will be fun and touching because movies with similar posters were also fun and touching."
